Clinical Examination
The athlete history will give you a lot of information as to the likelihood of a bone stress injury. Stuart teaches you what you need to ask, as well as some simple clinical tests to help you come up with a likely diagnosis
Imaging Algorithm
Depending on the location of the suspected lower limb bone stress injury, Stuart will walk you through the appropriate imaging options that will help you reach a diagnosis
Rehab Options

Stuart Warden
Dr. Stuart Warden completed his physiotherapy and PhD degrees at the University of Melbourne in Australia before post-doctorate training at the Australian Institute of Sport and Indiana University.
He is currently a Chancellor’s Professor and the Associate Dean for Research within the School of Health and Human Sciences at Indiana University. Stuart directs the Musculoskeletal Function, Imaging, and Tissue (MSK-FIT) Resource Core within the Indiana Center for Musculoskeletal Health. His research focuses on the form and function of the musculoskeletal system with a particular interest on bone stress injuries and the contribution of physical activity to skeletal health. He has contributed over 150 peer-reviewed publications and has served as Deputy Editor for the British Journal of Sports Medicine and Associate Editor for the Journal of Orthopedic and Sports Physical Therapy. Stuart currently serves as Associate Editor for Medicine and Science in Sport and Exercise.
Liam West
Dr Liam West completed a Sports Science degree with first class honours and then went on to graduate from a Medical Degree (Cardiff University, Wales, UK) in 2013. To further specialise, he then completed a Sports & Exercise Medicine Masters Degree before coming to Melbourne to practice as a Sports & Exercise Medicine Registrar. He subsequently finished his registrar training in 2022 and is now a Fellow of the Australasian College of Sport & Exercise Physicians.
He has provided medical services at international events including the 2018 Commonwealth Games, the 2018 Invictus Games and will be travelling to the 2022 Commonwealth Games as the Australian Athletics Doctor. He is currently the Head Doctor for the Hawthorn Football Club (AFL) and is a member of the match day medical team for the Melbourne Rebels.
Liam has led UK & European-wide Sports Medicine committees, is a Senior Associate Editor for the British Journal of Sports Medicine (BJSM), sits on the AFL Doctors Association (AFLDA) Executive Committee, and in 2017 was elected the President of the Victorian Council of Sports Medicine Australia.
